NK1565.V46Description
M. P. Verneuil was one of the finest artists and most influential teachers in the Art Nouveau movement around the turn of the century. Among his greatest achievements was the monumental Étude de la Plante, a rich treasury of floral and foliate motifs designed to serve a multitude of commercial applications: textiles, ceramics, stained glass, wallpaper, stencils and the like. Verneuil's masterpiece included renderings of cultivated and wild flowers, blossoming trees and shrubs, reeds, rushes, mushrooms -- even seaweed -- all suggesting wonderful patterns, many in useful form of borders, roundels, repeating patterns, corners, and vignettes, as well as large-scale and allover patterns.Lexicon
