Retailer description: "This delightful collector’s thimble was crafted by Johnson Brothers, a distinguished English porcelain house founded in 1883. Contrasting with the thimble’s pure white finish is a colorful design consisting of a colorful array of flowers in full bloom. Boldly yet delicately executed, the design, with its variety of bright blooms, evokes the beauty of an English garden at the very height of the growing season. The thimble also bears its maker’s distinctive identifying mark, the gracefully conceived initials JB. Over the years these initials, which have appeared on tableware noted for imaginative and tasteful design, have become a symbol of quality and beauty. Johnson Brothers derives its name from the fact that the firm was founded by Alfred, Fred, Henry and Robert Johnson, who established a small factory in the town of Hanley. The firm coined the name Granite for the superior type of earthenware it produced. Also known as ironstone china, it was relatively strong, would not stain and resisted chipping. Its products were so well received that Johnson Brothers soon began to expand and produce tableware in several warm colors, introducing a new shape each year. A division of Wedgwood since 1968, the firm today operates six factories in the Stoke-on-Trent area and administers an associate company in Australia. With its staff of more than 2,000 employees, Johnson Brothers ranks as a leader among the world’s great porcelain houses."Collection
