White porcelain gold swan thimble, part of the Franklin Mint "Thimbles of the World’s Greatest Porcelain Houses" series.
Retailer description: "The Franklin porcelain thimble is lavishly decorated in gold with a graceful natural motif incorporating flowers, a swan and a butterfly. Although it is the youngest of the great porcelain houses represented in this collection, Franklin Porcelain has already built a reputation for quality and has become a world leader in the manufacture of fine porcelain. Created in February 1976 as a division of The Franklin Mint, Franklin Porcelain established its own manufacturing facility at Rockdale, Pennsylvania early in the following year. This facility, one of the most modern porcelain plants in the world, is located in the picturesque rolling hills of the southeastern part of the state. During the mid-19th century, the village of Rockdale was a thriving textile-manufacturing center with several water-powered mills. Today, 350 to 450 people are employed at Franklin Porcelain’s studios and workshops. Under the leadership of the internationally renowned artist Ronald Van Ruyckevelt, its chief sculptor and designer, Franklin Porcelain has crafted such fine porcelain collectibles as decorative plates, figurines, bells, thimbles, tankards and vases. In a company where innovation is encouraged and perfection is a standard, it is nor surprising that many prestigious organizations have commissioned works from Franklin Porcelain; among them are the Royal Ballet, the National Audubon Society, the United Nations and the Royal Dutch Horticultural Society."Collection
