Description

White porcelain high relief thimble, part of the Franklin Mint "Thimbles of the World’s Greatest Porcelain Houses" series. Retailer description: "The porcelain thimble created by the Spanish ceramicist Lladró is ornamented with three figures in high relief. In a floral setting, one young girl waters a plant; another sits with spring flowers in her lap, and a third stands holding a bouquet of flowers. These charming sculptured figures suggest the porcelain sculptures for which Lladró is internationally respected. Lladró’s distinctive identifying mark is an integral part of the thimble design. The Lladró firm was established with a primitive, wood-fired furnace in 1951 in the little Spanish town of Amacera in Valencia. The three founding brothers, Juan, Jose and Vicente Lladró, were all trained in art and began their porcelain business by building a kiln in the patio of their house. Because of the brothers’ great skill and artistry, their business eventually grew until it occupied more than one large factory where many works of great beauty are created. Notable in their creative output are their figurines, for which the firm is justly famous. Stylization, thematic variety, color, technical quality and painstaking care in all details characterize Lladró porcelain figures. Since the firm was founded, it has greatly expanded. A new factory was opened at Valencia in 1955, and another new factory was built at Tabernes Blanques three years later in 1958. Lladró has carried innovation to the point that the firm has developed the washes of certain pastel colors in its own laboratory."
