Sashiko stitch sampleEntry/Object ID
2025.7.6Description
Six sashiko stitch samples on a piece of linen. Sample wrapped in thick paper (possibly wrapping or shipping paper) that seems unrelated but is covered in a lot of text and stamps. Some are hitomezashi sashiko patterns which work on a grid and others are less grid based.
Stitch types include: ajirozashi (threaded stitch), hishi moyō (diamond pattern), possibly a variation on the mountain form, raimon or inaszuma (ancient spiral pattern), dan tsunagi (linked steps), kawari kikkōzashi (tortoiseshell stitch variation), yamagata (mountain form).Ethnography
