BE SERVICES IN CHAPEL SEPTEMBER 6 ANd 13 Early Sabbath Services will be held at 7 30 o'clock September 6 and September 13 in thC Chapel. Cantor Manfred F. Kuttner will offi- ciate at these brief and intimate worship services. Published Bi-Weekly by TEMPLE ISRAEL, Ornaha, Nebraska Vol. XIV September 6, 1963 IIillPtt TIDINC$ 4auo Ralrlnl to fifemleru . . . our High Holidays are a stimulating spiritual and ritual beginning of another year and another season of labor together. Many comments are often made about the large attendance at Rosh Hashonah ind yom Kippur worship and the contrast with services the balance of the year. on this mliter r_ am neither judgmental nor pessimistic. r am not sure that worship alone is the essence of Judaism, although I am sure that without a reverencl for God that makes us speak his praise in prayer, Judaism is impossible. But there is more to Judaism than worship and the education of, our children and, thank God, the multitude of meetings and programs which seem to keep our community tottering on the fine edge between sensible attention to the real demands of religious life and frenetic busyness. The mdmbers of our congregation have made marvelous investments of service, support, loyalty and leadership in our Temple. I can only hope that more of our members will take advantage of what we believe to-be.the well-rounded program reflecting the purposes of a Synagogue. Let us use what we have built. The Temple is not a Club. But we hope you will find friendship here. . Ttrg Temple is not in the business of entertainment. But we hope you will find our surroundings pleasant. The Temple is not a public relations center. But let us hope that here the ideas of Judaism will find their finest expressions. The Temple is not a public school nor a university. But we do strive to make our Temple the place where young and old may learn more and more of rorah which is Jewish wisdom in all its ages and in every way that it relates to our lives. The Temple is not a place of retreat from the society in which we live or the politics and governm, ent which regulates it, nor from the problems of family life or of community or nation, nor from personal worry or fear. But we dare to hope that in the Temple through its programs, and classes and discussions we may togetler come squarely to grips with all of these and more of the components of useful and creative living. As your Rabbi it is my wish that our Temple shotrld play this role in your lives. In my personal service to you I shall try to make il so-it you will. SIDNEY H. BROOKS.
