General Notes

Note

The use of a silver trophy cup dates to at least the 16th century, when a "trophy" was something taken from one's enemy, typically a piece of armor or a body part, that was displayed after a battle as a piece of tangible evidence of triumph. While souvenir body parts have, thankfully, fallen out of fashion, the silver trophy cup endures as a symbol of competitive sporting victory, particularly in equestrian events.
