Henry Kirke Bush-Brown (1857-1935)
Henry Kirks Bush-Brown was the founding president of The Arts Club of Washington in 1916. He was an American sculptor and the adopted nephew of sculptor Henry Kirke Brown (1814-1886). Raised in Newburgh, New York, Bush-Brown attended the National Academy of Design in New York, France, and Italy. He became known for historically accurate realistic sculptures illustrating American history. Also exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Chicago/Buffalo Expositions of 1893/1901. First prize Society of Washington Artists 1927. President of the Society of Washington Artists. His works include public monuments in Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Washington, D.C. & Maryland; portrait busts, medals, etc. His sculptures are in the National Collection of Fine Arts (now the Smithsonian Art Museum), the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the United States Capitol. Berryman's caricature shows Bush-Brown sculpting a teddy bear (a reference to Berryman's creation) with a buffalo sculpture in the background signed H.K. Bush-Brown.Made/Created
