Description

Duck brooch depicting a pintail male. Three-dimensional. Resin-cast and hand-painted. Depicts a pheasant posed mid-flight, with its neck stretched, beak open, feet tucked into its body, and wings posed at the peak of their upstroke. Eyes and tail and wing feathers are visible in resin model. No pupil painted on eye. Back of brooch is flat and unpainted, revealing resin. Silver metal brooch pin is adhered semi-vertically to back. Large section of green paint on tail has chipped off, revealing brown resin underneath.

Use

Part of a set of NatureCraft brooches made by a Vancouver company in the 1950s, depicting flowers, birds, and fish of British Columbia, Canada. These hand-painted resin brooches were distributed at gift and jewelry shops across Canada. In the 1950s, the donor's family purchased samples of the full NatureCraft brooch line as part of a planned business venture. While this venture did not come to fruition, these sample brooches remained in their possession.
