Description

Part A & B) Pair of matching rainbow trout brooches. Three-dimensional. Resin-cast and hand painted in naturalistic colours. Each brooch depicts a trout posed mid-leap, with their mouths open and tails curved dynamically underneath their bodies. Eyes and fins are visible in resin model. Back of each brooch is flat and unpainted, though marked with some (presumably) accidental paint spots. Silver metal brooch pin is adhered horizontally to back. Some chipping of paint on fins and tails, revealing brown resin underneath.

Use

Part of a set of Naturecraft brooches made by a Vancouver company in the 1950s, depicting flowers, birds, and fish of British Columbia, Canada. These hand-painted resin brooches were distributed at gift and jewelry shops across Canada. In the 1950s, the donor's family purchased samples of the full Naturecraft brooch line as part of a planned business venture. While this venture did not come to fruition, these sample brooches remained in their possession.
