Unpainted resin-cast bird flying towards the right. Part of a sample set of resin-cast brooches, although this artifact does not have a pin. Three-dimensional. Appears to depict a species of duck. The bird is posed mid-flight, with its neck outstretched, beak open, feet tucked into its body, and wings at the peak of their upstroke. Eyes, nostrils, wing feathers and tail feathers are visible. Left side of bird is flat and coated in a dark, shiny layer of resin.Use
Part of a set of Naturecraft brooches made by a Vancouver company in the 1950s, depicting flowers, birds, and fish of British Columbia, Canada. These hand-painted resin brooches were distributed at gift and jewelry shops across Canada.
In the 1950s, the donor's family purchased samples of the full Naturecraft brooch line as part of a planned business venture. While this venture did not come to fruition, these sample brooches remained in their possession.Acquisition
