Part A) Ivory silk men's summer suit jacket. Flat collar and notched lapel. Cotton yoke inside jacket. Full length sleeves, each with two decorative yellow (discoloured?) buttons on the cuff. Darts at front. Jacket has two patch pockets on the left front and one single patch pocket on the right front. Jacket interior has one patch pocket on both the left and the right front panels. Three button closure down centre front. Brown discolouration on jacket interior and black speckles across exterior front.
Part B) Ivory silk men's trousers. 1 3/4" waistband. Seam pocket at both right and left front of trousers, with decorative stitching. One vertical slit pocket at waistband on right front. Four button fly closure at center front, along with a French bearer fly. Six suspender buttons inside waistband. On rear of trousers are two double-welt pockets with single button closure. Hems are cuffed. Dark brown discolouration on right pocket lining, inside trousers.Use
This suit belonged to Michael Wilkinson Brighouse (1864-1922), nephew of Samuel Brighouse, one of the "Three Greenhorns" of Vancouver's West End. Michael owned an ice factory in Vancouver, on Hastings. He travelled extensively and often bought clothing on his family's travels.Acquisition
