Part A) White silk satin wedding dress. Floor-length. Collar, top half of sleeves, shoulders and yokes are made with white floral lace. Collar is ruffled. Sleeves are full-length, with lace puff shoulders and upper arms and straight white silk forearms. Sleeves end in a slight taper. Single slit on each sleeve wrist had three self-covered button closure. Seams on shoulders, back of neckline, and back of yoke embellished with ruffled (?) silk. Bodice has eighteen round and self-covered button closure down center front, as well as snap fasteners on right side. Natural waistline in an inverted "V" shape in front and a shallow inverted "U" shape in rear. Belt attached at sides of waist in two pieces, with circular self-covered frame. Straight skirt with flared hem.
Part B) White silk satin shift. Floor-length. Spaghetti straps. Shallow "V" neckline in front and low square neckline in rear. Empire waist with inverted "V" shape waistline. Some fraying on hems and pink discolouration on bodice.Use
Belonged to the mother of the donor, who wore this dress on January 31st, 1937. The wedding took place in a Russian Orthodox Church as both the bride and groom's families were of Ukrainian ancestry.
A newspaper announcement of the event describes the bride's dress as such:
"The bride...wore a gown of white satin combined with lace. Her silk net veil was caught to the hair in a ruffled net tiara effect, outlined with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of pink roses and white carnations."Acquisition
