Scissors and shears. -- To prevent the chafing or bruising of the fingers &c., the bows and handles are covered with rubber. The rubber may be applied while it is soft or melted state, the parts indicated by the waved lines 7, 8, Fig. 1, being covered with a thicker layer than the other parts and the whole suitably vulcanised; or, as shown in Fig. 4, the bows may be cut through at 9, 10 and provided with a sheath of vulcanised-rubber tubing, which is suitably shaped for the purpose, the split parts of the bows being secured by screws 13, 14. The parts of the rubber sheath which become worn may be repaired by winding soft felt or rubber upon them.
