Shears, sheep. The guard A is provided with projections B which slide into dovetailed grooves on the blade and prevent the skin from being accidentally cut. The part of C of the guard forms a spring which catches the back of the blade and retains the guard in its place. At D the guard fits under a bevelled edge which slopes inwards and prevents the end from catching in the wool. The buffers E are made of india-rubber or wood instead of iron, to avoid the jarring which results when the latter substance is employed. The blades are made thin near the edge, so that setting on an oilstone is sufficient for sharpening.Cataloged By
