19,642. Feinenburg, J. Sept. 3.
Shears with soft-metal frames and steel blades attached thereto have their frames formed in a suitable press, the lower swage g, Fig. 1, of which is formed with suitable recesses b into which the metal of the frame a is pressed to form rivet pieces which are adapted to engage with suitable holes in the blade piece. The blade may be attached to the frame during the stamping operation, in which case, it is provided with rivet holes b, Fig. 3, bevelled off at its edge c1, and placed with the frame in the press, which simultaneously forms the frame and rivets the blade by forcing the softer metal of the frame through the rivet holes and over the bevelled edge. In order to strengthen the handles, they may be divided longitudinally, the blades extending down between the parts d, d1, Fig. 5, the latter of which is removable, and being suitably riveted in position. A slot may be formed behind the pivot pin to form a tongue e, which presses the blades against one another when the scissors are in use. The handle portion may be formed with an incision into which an extension on the blade is pushed, the blade then being riveted in position.Cataloged By
