Shears. -- A pair of pivoted handles are attached to the shanks of bow shears, so that the shears can be used for clipping grass by an operator in an erect position using both hands. The handles A, Fig. 1, terminate in curved arms B, B1 pivoted at P and attached to the shanks S, S1 by curved plates T, T1. The plate T1, Fig. 2, may be provided with sockets x for a pin or pegs Q attached to the arm B1, and may terminate in a spring lug a which bears on the arm B1 and which may be compressed by a screw and nut to adjust the edges of the blades. A shoulder and notch Z limit the opening of the shears. In a modification, the pivoted handles are formed integral with, or attached to, shoes c3, d3, Figs. 6 and 8. The shoe c3 terminates in a clip c attached to the shank a by a wing-nut c1, and the show d3 terminates in a pin e3, preferably spring-controlled, which engages with a hole e4 in the clip d also fixed to the other shank by a wing-nut. An adjustable link, pivoted to one handle and sliding in a guide on the other, may be provided for limiting the opening of the shears. The handles may be placed at any inclination to the blades by forming each shoe in two parts, Fig. 6, secured in any desired relation by a wing-nut.Cataloged By
