Scissors and shears. -- The pivot pin c, Fig. 1, of scissors and other "bi-part pivotal instruments" is freely rotatable and is formed at one end with a groove c2, which is engaged by a slot in a spring plate d, Fig. 7, resting on the flat part of the blade, and at the other end with a shoulder c1 which bears against the other blade. The spring plate d is disposed at an angle to the flat portion a, Fig. 6, of the blade so that by moving it longitudinally the tension between the blades may be adjusted. The blade is provided with indentations d3 which are engaged by a lug d1 on the spring plate, to fix its position. To facilitate the adjustment of the spring plate, the other end of the pivot may be formed with a smaller shoulder c3, Fig. 14, or with a second groove c4, Fig. 3, against or in which rests a spring washer j. A spring wire f, Fig. 11, may take the place of the spring plate.Cataloged By
