Shears. -- Relates to the manufacture of shears for shearing sheep and for similar purposes. The blades are forged by hand, a steel edge being welded to an iron back, and are formed in pairs with a narrow joining-strip. This, when cut in the middle, leaves each blade with a tang. The tangs are afterwards welded to a strip of springy steel, from which the shanks and bow are formed.Cataloged By
