Description

7038. Bown, W., and Capewell, G. June 9. Shears. -- Relates to shears for trimming wicks and for other purposes. A lever A is pivoted at B and prolonged so as to pass through a slot in the cutting-plate C, which moves in guides attached to the piece E. A spring H is secured to the upper portion of the lever A, the other end of the spring being connected to a roller I which presses upon the plate C and keeps it from rising. On pressing the levers A and K towards each other, the lever A turns upon the pivot B and projects the plate C forwards towards the fixed cutter D. The levers A and K can be doubled over, as indicated by the dotted lines, for convenience of packing into a small compass; the may, however, be made in a single piece. A modification is described in which the levers A and K are placed in a horizontal plane.
