Scissors and shears. -- One of the blades is, as usual, in a piece with its shank; but the other is so mounted as to be capable of a sliding motion which is communicated to it when the shanks are turned. The Figure shows one means of accomplishing this. The pivot is at o. The blade b can slide in a channel upon the inner face of the shank B and carries a pin i which projects through an oblique slot h in the shank A, having the ordinary blade a. In a modification, the shank A has a pinion which turns with it about the pivot and engages a rack at the bottom of the sliding blade.Cataloged By
