Scissors and shears. -- The halves are pivoted on one or a pair of pins carried by a spring which presses the blades together. In a modification, a pivot stud with spring washer and nut is used. Fig. 8 shows the pivot pin e carried by a U-clip d. Fig. 5 shows the shanks of the scissors, after being bent to form the bows, terminating in springs d, d1 with pivot pins. In combination with these methods of pivoting the bases of the blades are formed with circular shoulders f and inclines g producing a gradual contact pressure.
