"We can furnish any of the following Snips, with Bows made for Left-handed men, at an extra cost of fifty cents each net. This means a right-hand cut, with Bows made for the left hand.
"We sometimes have call for Snips for left-handed men, but a Left-hand Snip, as we apply the term, is not intended for a left-handed man. Confusion often arises as to the meaning of the terms right- and left-hand as applied to Snips. Right-hand are made like Bench Shears, and left-hand opposite. That is, when held in the right hand the lower Blade is on the right side of the Shears in Right-hand Shears, and on the left hand in Left-hand Shears. Left-hand only are show in the Cuts. Left-hand Snips are more generally used, and are invariably sent unless Right-hand are ordered."
"How to Use Tinners' Shears: Make straight up and down cuts. Keep the "set" of the shears right for easy work at all times. Keep the Joint and Bolt well oiled. Take care to sharpen properly, and as frequently as necessary to give an easy cut. P. S. & W. Shears have sufficient tool-steel in the blades to allow proper grinding whenever needed. Don't grind too fine an edge. Don't twist the heavy iron or steel. Always use the Snips for such work as is adapted to their size. Don't use the cutting-edges of Snips for wire cutters, use Cutting Pliers instead."Publication Details
