A pair of sprung scissors shaped like a dagger, with a silver sheath, crossguard, and handle. The sheath has a loop attached to it. The blades are marked "THE BIRCHAM DAGGER SCISSORS". The pivot area is marked "THORNHILL" on one side, and "NEW BOND ST" on the reverse. The hallmarks on the silver parts date the scissors to 1874/75. Shoulder is st3, cross section is cs4. Walter Thornhill of 144 New Bond Street registered an "Ornamental Design for a pair of Scissors or Pruning Shears &c" in 1873, which can be found in the National Archives (image below for reference).Category
