Scissor makers named Enoch Beal appear in numerous Trade Directories, beginning with Gales & Martin (1787). Here he is listed as a common scissor manufacturer at Bradfield, a village on the outskirts of Sheffield approximately five miles from the current city centre. His mark was "POG +". Subsequent directories list Enoch Beal as follows: Robinson, 1797 - Bradfield Dale Blackwell, 1828 - Trippet Lane White's, 1833 - 57 Trippet Lane (scissor manufacturer and garden and tailors' shears also) White's, 1849 - ct. 7 Shepherd Street (scissor manufacturer and shear maker also) Robson, 1839 - 88 Hollis Croft Pigot's, 1841 - Hollis Croft A variation of the surname - Beale - also has Enoch Beale as a scissorsmith in Bailey Street (Brownell, 1817) and as a scissor Manufacturer at 53 Trippet Lane (Pigot's, 1828-1829).
