There are various entries in the Trade Directories for shear manufacturers named George Bishop. The first appears in Gales & Martin (1787) as a wool shear manufacturer in Brinsworth's Orchard. His mark is "G BISHOP". In Robinson's (1797) a George Bishop with the mark "LIBERTY" is listed as a shear maker at 18 Workhouse Croft. Subsequent directories also have listings for shear makers named George Bishop, including the following: Wardle & Bentham, 1814-15 - Sims Croft White's, 1833 - Siddon's Row Pigot's, 1834 - Siddon's Row Pigot's, 1841 - Matilda Street Robson, 1839 - Duke Street (weavers' shears)
