John Shemeld is listed as a scissor maker at Attercliffe in Sketchley (1774). Attercliffe is a suburb to the north east of the current city centre, and would have been a rural community at the time. His mark was the word "JOY".
He appears again in at Attercliffe as a common scissor manufacturer in Gales & Martin (1787) with the same mark. A John Shimeld (note spelling variation) appears in Robinson's (1797) also as a common scissor maker at Attercliffe, but with no mark associated with his listing.Created By
