Sheep shears, making. -- Heated bars or billets of steel or iron and steel are converted into blanks by passing them through rolls, one of which has a sunk or recessed part, forming the counter-part of the blank, as shown in Fig 2. The counter-part may be sunk in each roll. The rolls may be of steel or chilled cast iron, or other suitable metal. The thin web or fash of waste material is cut off and the blanks are shaped and finished as usual.
