Shearing-instruments. — An appliance for pruning, cutting fruit or blooms, trimming grapes, and the like consists of two steel blades or cutters mounted on a wooden or other handle and so arranged that one blade slides over the other. The end of one blade is formed as a hook and sharpened on the inner side of the curve, the other blade being cut off on the slope and bevelled to form a cutting-edge. One blade is fixed and the other movable and controlled by a spring. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the straight-ended blade A is the movable one and is actuated by the levers G, H. It is kept in position by a screw E passing through a slot D in the blade A and attached to the fixed blade B. An extra lever J may be employed with the clip L to hold it closed. Other arrangements of levers are also described. The Provisional Specification describes forms in which the blades are actuated by thumb-pieces attached directly to them, and in which the hooked blade may be the movable one.Cataloged By
