Shears. -- The spring d, Fig. 3, which tends to separate the blades in secateurs or pruning-shears is wound spirally around a stud g, Fig. 1, on an extension c of the arm a, and carries at its free end a roller e which bears on the guide-piece f on the arm b. The spring is held by a nut h on the stud, which is polygonal in shape, the first convolution of the spring being formed to fit it.
