Scissors and shears. — The cutting-edge is made to pass between two other cutting-edges so as to prevent side movement. The blades of horticultural shears, scissors and similar instruments are formed as shown in section in Fig. 3. A blade H is clamped between the metal pieces A, B, and passes between the cutting-edges of two other pieces F, G. The other edge of the blade H may have saw teeth along it. For sheep shears and scissors intended for cutting soft substances, the form adopted is that shown in Fig 6. The parts K1, L act like the blades of ordinary scissors, but the part K, which has a rounded edge, presses the blades together. Scissors for surgical and other use are constructed with one, two, or three cutting-edges in either of the forms shown.Cataloged By
