Scissors and shears. -- To render surgical scissors and shears self-opening, the handles are made long, and towards their ends they are hinged and are made springy. In the form show in Fig. 2, the handles are made stiff for about half their lengths, but the outer ends are made thinner and broader and thus springy. They may be hinged at the end b, or one elastic end may slide on the other elastic end. At the middle a4 the handles are broader and are serrated, or made with holes or hollows to form a grip. For pocket scissors, Figs. 4 and 5, the springy ends are continuous and are hinged to the handles, so that the blades can be folded inside, as shown in Fig. 5.Cataloged By
