Shears. -- Sheep shears of the form shown in Fig. 9 are made in three parts. A bar of steel, or of iron faced on one side with steel, is rolled or forged to a concave or convex section and of sufficient breadth to allow of punching, at one operation, two blades from it, which are shaped by dies &c. and are fixed to the shanks by rivets, screws, or soldering &c. The bow and shanks are in one piece, first bent to the form shown in Fig. 2 and afterwards bent to the proper shape. The shank ends are closed to receive the blades at e, Fig. 3, the shoulder A and stop B, Fig. 8, locking the blade into the shank.Cataloged By
