Description

17,451. Wright, T. Aug. 11. Shearing-instruments. -- A hand tool for tying the ends of yarn or thread, for the use of operatives employed upon winding, warping, weaving, and lacemaking machines, &c., comprises two jaws, A, C and a blade d. The jaw A and blade d are attached to hafts B, D respectively, the blade being pivoted at d1 or capable of sliding so as to form with. the jaw A a pair of shears, which are kept open by a spring E. The jaw C is pivoted to the jaw A at c2, and a spring c tends to keep it pressed against the jaw A, but it is normally kept open by means of a pin c1 engaging in a slot d2 in the blade d. The thread ends are twisted into a loop round the jaws, the ends being placed between the jaws. The hafts B, D are then pressed together, thus causing the ends of the thread to be gripped between the jaws A, C, while the superfluous ends are cut off by the blade d. The loop is then slipped off the jaws and pulled tight, thus forming a knot.
