Description

2857. Heymann, M. July 13. [Provisional protection only.] Scissors. -- Relates to a measuring-instrument which is applied to scissors so that a piece of fabric may be cut and measured simultaneously. A disc of known circumference, which runs over the fabric, is formed with a uniform spiral groove on one face and is enclosed in a case, which is open at the bottom and has a radial slot in one face. A pointer, which works in the groove and projects through the slot, indicates on a scale, marked along the edge of the slot, the distance over which the disc has travelled. The groove approaches the centre by an equal amount for each revolution, so that the divisions of the indicating-scale are equal. An ordinary measuring-tape may be placed upon the fulcrum or other part of the scissors and acts as a measurer and straight-edge, as the tape when drawn out indicates the length of the cut and presents a straight line for the guidance of the scissors.
