Shears. -- Sheep shears and other articles of cutlery are made from sheets composed of iron and steel combined or united, and also out of sheets composed of steel of different qualities and tempers united together. A layer of steel is welded to a "lump" of iron, or a mild steel ingot is faced with hard steel, and the metal is then rolled out into sheets, the hard steel in both cases being arranged so that it comes in the part of the sheets for forming the cutting-edges. The iron and soft steel are suitably placed for forming the shanks and bow and the base or foundation of the cutting parts.Cataloged By
