Scissors and shears. -- One blade of shears, especially such as are used for cutting cloth, is formed with a cam edge slanting downwards, the blade terminating at or near the cam, a little distance behind the joint fulcrum of the blades. Against the cam edge works the short end of a double armed lever, having its fulcrum on the other blade, and worked by the hand. The blade is brought back by a spring, and the two blades are forced apart behind their joint fulcrum by means of a spring. Instead of the cam action, a toothed rack and sector may be used; the pressing-lever carries the sector and is kept raised by a spring.Cataloged By
