Scissors and shears. - (1) The lower limb of scissors and shears for tailors &c. is cranked so as to bring the cutting-edge but little above the centre of motion of the limb. (2) Barbers’ scissors are formed with a projecting tail, to bear the pressure of the little finger. (3) Sheep shears are provided with a guard d to prevent cutting the animal. This guard is secured to one limb as at ax and carries a slotted guide d1 in which works a pin e fixed to the side of the lower limb. (4) In pruning-shears, the arms or handles are provided with horns, against which the fingers can bear, and the cutting-edges of the blades are of a curved shape.Cataloged By
