Registered design for a case for a writing set and such like. Illustration includes scissors alongside other implements. Document stamped "DESIGNS OFFICE REGISTERED DEC 22 1859".
Selected text: "A Design for the shape or configuration of dressing, jewel and such like cases.
The object of utility obtained by this shape or configuration is that it affords greater facilities for the removal of the drawers or trays used in such like cases.
Figure 1 shows a front view open Figure 2 a plan when open the horizontal partition being removed and Figure 3 a transverse section when open the case shewn is fitted for a combined dressing and writing case but the interval fittings may be varied a is the lower part of the case which is fitted with a horizontal partition b over which the case or tray for the match box instant and writing instruments is placed and such tray is made separate so as to admit of being readily removed. On the partition b writing paper may be placed. The front of the case c is made to fold down on hinges and is of a thickness corresponding with the bottom of the case so that when folded down it facilitates the withdrawal and at the same time becomes the support of the tray or drawer d.
The novelty consists in the shape or configuration of the folding from c. The other parts are old.
