"... Design for Scissors
Thomas Fletcher of Long Eaton in the County of Derby Lace Manufacturer and Joseph Fletcher of [Ison?] Green near Nottingham Lace Manufacturer - Proprietors
The purpose of utility arising from the shape and configuration of the new parts of this design consists in the performing of two cuts or incisions at the same time instead of only one.
Description of the Drawing. Figure 1 is a plan or edge view, and Figure 2 a side view of our improved scissors which have four cutting edges instead of two only. A is a blade having two cutting edges a, a, one on each side. B is a double or two branched blade or double-bladed piece whereof the two blades or branches are jointed to the blade A, there being one blade or branch B on each side of the blade A so that the latter lies between them when the scissors are closed. Each blade or branch B has a cutting edge b so that there is a cutting edge b working on each side of the blade A, one for each of the edges a. The scissors thus have in all four cutting edges and affect two scissors at once. d are the bows, A1 the shank of the blade A.
The parts of this design which are not new in respect of the shape and configuration thereof are all the parts except the double edged blade A and the double bladed piece B. (The part d is old.)"Relationships
