1700s, dutch, asymmetrical point, cs2, scissors, silver, sewing, chatelaineDescription
A small pair of Dutch scissors believed to date from the 18th century. Loops on top of the bows would have connected the scissors to a chain, possibly on a chatelaine. The shanks and points are asymmetrical, there is no shoulder transition, and the cross section is cs2.
In "Needlework Tools and Accessories: A Dutch Tradition" (Sullivan, 2004) an identical pair is pictured on page 106 with the caption "Silver needlework scissors, c.1730, Maker: Cornelis Bormeester, Amsterdam (1730-85)."Made/Created
