Description

A pair of commemorative scissors made by Joseph Rodgers & Sons for the launch of the S.S. Berlin on the 10th January 1894. The shanks and bows are ornate, and the screw head and base are decorated. Shoulder transition is st8, cross section is cs1, and the point is asymmetrical. The pivot area is marked J. RODGERS & SONS with the star and maltese cross design that was their trademark. The inscription on the blade reads 'Launched Jany. 10th 1894 S.S. Berlin'. The top of the case has a metal plaque that reads EARLE'S SHIPBUILDING & ENGINEERING CO HULL; and the inside of the case is marked JOSEPH RODERS & SONS 6, NORFOLK ST. SHEFFIELD CUTLERS TO HER MAJESTY, with the star and maltese cross design, followed by CORPORATE MARK.
