bradford, england, ceremonial, fingerpads, cs1, st8, decorated screw, fishDescription
A pair of ceremonial scissors made by B & A Butterfield of Bradford. Ornate fish design shanks with fingerpads on the inside of the bows. Boxed, with a plaque on the lid which reads "S.S. ROCHCASTLE LAUNCHED Sept 5th 1898 BY MRS W. GEMMELL". It is possible that Rochcastle is a misspelling/alternative spelling of Roche Castle, which was a ship built in 1898 (ref: National Archives record) listed elsewhere as a fishing trawler built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell Ltd., Hull.
The screw is decorated, shoulder transition is st8, and cross section is cs1. The lining on the case is marked "B & A. BUTTERFIELD CUTLERS & OPTICIANS BRADFORD".
Hull Museums hold a very similar pair also made by Butterfield (see link below).Made/Created
