Description

A robust pair of scissors with uneven bows and curved blades. The smaller bow retains part of a leather strap, presumably to cushion the thumb when the scissors are in use, while the larger bow is made to accommodate multiple fingers, suggesting that these were made for heavy work. The shank is tup, shoulder transition is st3, cross section is cs4, and the point is leaf. A Wiebusch & Hilger Limited Catalogue from 1890 has a very similar looking pair of scissors with the leather covering on the bows. They are also the same size (listed as 8 inches) on the page that details Horse Shears, so it is a reasonable to assume that this pair may also have been manufactured as Horse Shears.
