england, sheath, cs2, decorated screw, asymmetrical point, reverseDescription
A pair of scissors - possibly Ladies' or Women's Work Scissors - with a decorated screw and a brown leather sheath. They are marked "LORBERG" above the screwhead and "38 KENSINGTON HIGH STREET" on the reverse.
There was a cutler named Charles Henry Lorberg whose firm operated at various addresses including Brompton Road, and numbers 38, 59, and 185 Kensington High Street from the mid 1860s through to at least 1934. Listings from London Trade Directories give 38 Kensington High Street as the address in 1895 and 1900; in 1890 the address is 59 Kensington High Street, and by 1905 the firm is listed at number 185 of the same street. It is therefore likely that these scissors date from around the mid 1890s - early 1900s.
The shanks are reverse and are decorated with fluted beads above the joint. Cross section is cs2, there is no shoulder transition, and the point is asymmetrical.Made/Created
