Description

William Beal was listed as a common scissor maker in Gales & Martin (1787) and also in Robinson's (1797). In both instances he was listed as being in Stannington, a village in the parish of Bradfield approximately three miles from the current city centre. In 1787 his mark is shown consisting of three elements stacked horizontally, from top to bottom: the outline of a heart; the letter "A"; the number "3". There is no mark recorded in 1797. In Wardle & Bentham (1814-1815) a William Beal is listed as a scissor maker at Wigginhall (which is probably the Wiggin Hall shown on the map of the Stannington area).
