Wreath made from human hair braided and woven into floral and other natural shapes. In the 19th century, hairwork pieces such as this was a very popular handcraft and were produced as both mourning and commemorative objects. Some see hairwork as a particularly morbid phenomenon, but how many parents today save their child's baby teeth, or a lock from their first haircut? Perhaps the practice isn't so strange at all.
