The inside cover is inscribed "Louis C. Winkelman 1877" in pencil. Likely the original owner, this could be Louis Cornelius Winkelman (born about 1855 in Belgium, died December 1926 in Alameda County). Louis and his family lived on Linden St. in Oakland in 1880, and according to census records, he worked as a jeweler.
