This is a plaster cast, or copy, of a 19th century ceiling medallion. The hole in the center was to accommodate a lighting fixture.
Following the Oakland Public Museum period, most of the decorative elements were removed. In the restoration period, decorative elements such as these were recreated by local artisans and can be found around the period rooms of the Camron-Stanford House.
