Name/Title

Ohio Fire Tower Restoration Project - Brush Ridge, Tar Hollow (ca. 2009)

Description

Embroidered oval patch measuring 5 inches by 3.5 inches with tan and white backgrounds with green borders. This patch features a fire tower in the middle with a facial portrait of Smokey Bear to the left and the Division of Forestry logo to the right. Underneath these images, "Working to preserve fire prevention history" is written in yellow text. "Brush Ridge," "Tar Hollow," and "Ohio Fire Tower Restoration Project" outline the imagery in green letters. "Built 1934" in brown letters references the date the fire towers were built. Created in 1944, the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, educating generations of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. This patch was designed circa 2009 and promoted the restoration of the remaining state-owned fire towers in Ohio.
